EIU Sweeps EKU
November 11, EIU-12 EKU-1
The first game of the 2 game series occured after a long bus trip for EIU to Lexington, Kentucky. Coach Dan Runnion stated before warmups that he was skeptical about the teams performance due to missing players, the long bus ride, and the break from games that the team experienced. He explained that it was crucial for the team to have a good pregame warmup in order to succeed during the night. EIU came out strong and dominated the puck in the Colonel's zone for the first few minutes of the game; however the team was having trouble finding the back of the net. The Colonel's struck the board first finding a puck to slowly trickle past gaolie Andrew Teske. Eastern Illinois then received a powerplay shortly after the EKU goal. The team knew it was time to respond and did so when captain Brad Bartosz found the back of the net shortly into the powerplay to tie the game. The game went on in a similar fashion after this when Eastern began to pour on the goal scoring. Brad Bartosz found the net three times this game along with defenseman Jack Mcdonnell scoring two goals. EIU's offense was in full force; however their discipline was not the best for this game.

November 12, EIU-10 EKU-1
To start the Second game of the weekend EIU was reinforced with rookie winger Jake Armijo and veteran defenseman Joe Salazar, who were both unable to attend Friday's game. Armijo stated that "It was good to hear the boys were tearin' it up down south and feels great to be back witht the team again." The scoring started in the first period for Eastern when assistant captain Mike Sorrentino found the back of the net (assisted by Maly and Salazar). The first ended with 2 more goals scored by eastern (Tim Shannon; assisted by Guttosch and Abernethy)(Brad Bartosz; assisted by Clark and Abernethy) making the score 3-0. Eastern started scoring off 20 seconds into the first period when Sam Guttosch (assisted by Brad Bartosz) found the back of the net. This pattern repeated itself with goals by Jack McDonnell, Sam Guttosch, and Zach Ciszek (Assists by Shannon, Cox, McDonnell, Gallagher, and Maras). The second ended 7-0. EKU started the third when Austin Roman scored powerplay rebound goal to start the period. This angered EKU and was later mentioned by Coach Runnion as a learning lesson for the team to not take stupid penalties. Eastern answered back by scoring three more in the third by Jake Armijo(2) and Connor Maly (assists from Maly(2) and Clark). Coach Runnion stated: "We need to be alot more of a disciplined team. I agree with the boys that a few of the calls were questionable; however taking 16 penalties in one game is completely unacceptable. There will be a tough skate this week reminding the team of these penalties because against a team like Missouri State, this will be completely unacceptable."
