January 27, EIU-16 Lewis-4

EIU played Lewis for a set of home games at the Kankakee Ice Valley Centre in Kankakee, IL. EIU was faced with a somewhat short lineup due to injuries and other emergencies occuring with players. EIU, coming off of a huge win at Mizzou, was fired up and ready to take the ice again. The team hit the ice and began the scoring strong notching 4 tallies in the first, compared to Lewis' zero. The scoring continued to start the second period when EIU notched two more before Lewis finally found the back of the net. The game continued on in a similar fashion with EIU peppering Lewis' goalie Richard Higgins. "We just kept taking the wind out of their sails. Everytime they would put one in, we would answer back right away knocking out any momentum." said Assistant Captain Mike Sorrentino who notched 5 points during this game. The final score ended EIU-16 Lewis-4. Coach Runnion: We worked really hard to start the game and focused on playing a disciplined game. We took a total of 4 penalties this game which is a huge improvement based on prior games. I wish our defense would have been more sound, but in games like these everyone is so concerned on padding their stats. We need to focus on next weekend and will prepare by focusing on defense in tomorrow's game.

January 28, EIU-12 Lewis-3

Saturday's game started off with an even shorter EIU bench. Many players were unable to make the game due to injury and other obligations. Defenseman Steve Kriegshauser was forced to leave last nights game due to a hit to the head and a mild concussion. His return is unknown, but probable to be out the remainder of the season. The game started where it left off the night before with a plethora of EIU goals. The scoring continued throughout the second ending the period EIU-8 Lewis-2. The final of the game was EIU-12 Lewis-3. Coach Runnion: We took a little bit more penalties today than I would like to have seen. Some of the calls probably would not have been made in a closer game but it is no excuse. It was good to see the team work the puck like they did and I hope they carry this into next weekend against ISU.
